1) Want Civility in Politics? Change Your Own Behavior
Politicians are like avatars, they speak and act in ways that there base will like. This is why Trump speaks the way he does, this is why Democrats' cloak everything in JFK and “helping people.” These things don’t matter if they are true or not. Politicians use focus groups and data to tailor their language, their messaging, even the names of their laws. If you don’t like the way politicians talk, consider how you talk. I have always been shocked about how my very liberal relatives refer to right-wingers as if they are Nazis. If my relatives don’t want Trump calling them evil, they should stop calling him a Nazi. If it becomes unacceptable for liberal people to stop calling right-wingers fascists, then right-wingers will stop calling liberals names. Its really that simple.
2) On Divorce
Our culture is mad. If you want to enjoy a good relationship you need to work on it. If it is all about you, you might enjoy it, but it isn’t a relationship. Cordial divorce is the most mind numbing thing. If you can live together with someone for years but want a divorce, you shouldn’t be on speaking terms,. If you are on speaking terms, you probably don’t need a divorce, you need to work on yourself and your marriage. Although that is hard. So instead people try the even hard and less successful technique of creating a new relationship from scratch.
3) Shutting Down Has Consequences
amazing how shutting down the whole word screws things up. Who would have thought?
“It doesn’t matter how bad it gets. Our leaders will never admit failure. They will look at the disaster they are creating and call it success. This is what is truly chilling about the unfolding issues.”
